A Tradition of Superior
Insurance Service
Since 1880
1913: In keeping with
its principle of prompt claim settlement, a principle from which the
company has never wavered, even with today’s economic circumstances,
the company, in 1913, paid $136,275 in claims resulting from the Werk-en-Rust
Conflagration.
1945: The commitment
of the company to its policyholders was further evidenced after the
Great Fires of Georgetown in 1945, when the company paid in excess
of $400,000 in claims.
1999: More recent
examples of GTM’s reliability were seen in 1999, when one of
Guyana's historic buildings – the Park Hotel – was gutted
and in 2003 when GTM was among the first to settle claims after several
buildings in Georgetown – Mohamed’s Enterprises, Royal
Castle and Muneshwers Limited were destroyed by fire.
2005: Two major catastrophic
and unprecedented events occurred in 2004 and 2005, Hurricane Ivan
which affected 90% of the island of Grenada and severe floods in Guyana
which affected Georgetown, the capital city as well as areas on the
East Coast of Demerara. In both events, the company stood with its
policyholders ensuring that homes and businesses were restored.
